We will discuss why some foods are thought to be good and healthful to eat, and hopefully provide some great recipes for you to try to spice up your life and healthy with nutrition. We will discuss the role of different nutrients like sugars, fiber, oils, spices and other foods that you cannot avoid and remain robustly healthy. We will also discuss the food like substances that are inundating our food supply and the ways they are though to contribute to ill health.

What is Food?

The definition of what a food is appears to be ambiguous, still, and agenda driven.
The clearest and simplest definition I have found is as follows: “Food is any substance consumed to provide nutritional support for an organism. It is usually of plant or animal origin, and contains essential nutrients such as vitamins, fats, proteins, minerals, and carbohydrates. It is the substance ingested by an organism and assimilated by the organism's cells to provide energy, maintain life, or stimulate growth.” ~~ Editors of Encyclopedia Brittanica, 2017.
